How a quick fix saved a cement plant’s pumps from permanent damage.

SKYLER

The Challenge

The plant relies on two 150HP centrifugal pumps for critical process water handling. When vibration velocity and acceleration trends began to rise simultaneously on both pumps, the classic signs of cavitation were clear.

A report was sent to the customer recommending immediate action: Check and clean the inlet and outlet filters, verify pump priming, and confirm the pumps were running atthe best efficiency point (BEP).

Skyler alarm triggered a site inspection during which a cloggedinlet screen filter was discovered. Left unchecked, it was pushing the system toward cavitation and potential impeller failure.

The filter was cleaned on the spot.

Within two hours, the pumps were fully operational—no downtime, no production loss. Vibration trends dropped, cavitation patterns disappeared, and permanent impeller damage was averted.

Root cause?

Neglected filter maintenance due to lack of skilled staff. Procedures were reinforced and monitored to keep the pumps running smooth.
